Covid - 19

I hope you are safe and well as we come to terms with our ‘new normal’. I am pleased to say that the Oakmead team are currently happy and healthy and I couldn't be more proud of the service and support that the team have delivered to our patients during what is clearly a difficult time for everybody.

We also have to take our hats off to the real heroes of the day in the NHS and other vital key workers, many of whom we are lucky enough to have as patients.

We clearly have a way to go in this crisis and the government has decided to temporarily close down dental practices to reduce the movement of patients. It is setting up emergency dental hubs to treat patients with dental problems. As of today, we do not know the location of these hubs and they can only be accessed by calling 111. We have been advised to cancel all appointments until 31st May this year.

We will keep information updated on 01342 325363, www.oakmeaddentalcare.co.uk and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/OakmeadDentalCare . If you have an urgent dental problem and cannot access the dedicated treatment clinics, then please email us on [email protected] answering the following questions.

  • 1) Do you have a swollen gum?
  • 2) Have you got a broken tooth?
  • 3) Does a tooth hurt to bite on?
  • 4) Did the pain wake you up last night?
  • 5) Do hot or cold drinks make the pain worse?
  • 6) Are you allergic to penicillin?

Please ensure we have your up to date email address in case we need to email you a prescription for antibiotics.

If the email hasn't been answered within 3 hours, then please leave a message on the Oakmead triage telephone, 07516 562881, detailing your exact problem.

Reception will be open at 9am every weekday.

Planning ahead, when the government opens dental practices again, we can envisage a potential lack of availability of appointments, particularly with regard to the hygienist appointments. With this in mind, in addition to their normal hours, Debbie will be working some Saturdays, and Jill Mondays and Tuesdays until life fully returns to ‘normal’.

We will also be installing software that will automatically text you if an appointment becomes available at short notice. For instance, if you could only book a hygienist

appointment in 3 weeks’ time, and a patient cancelled before then, you would be offered their appointment. To book the appointment you would have to be the first person to reply to the text with the word ‘BOOK’. If this facility interests you, please ensure that we have your correct mobile number. As with most new technology, there will probably be 'teething' problems so please bear with us in the early days of operation.

Appointments can also be booked directly from the website www.oakmeaddentalcare.co.uk Click on the “Book Now” tab on the right of the home page. At the top select ‘Existing’ patient, so that it is highlighted in grey with 'New' changed to white, choose your dentist or hygienist and select the reason for the appointment. A four-digit number will be sent to your mobile and email to allow the booking. This is a useful facility to use particularly outside of normal opening hours.

During these challenging and uncertain times, we wish you, your family and friends good health.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Warmest regards,

Andrew Hopkins
