What Is An Extraction?

Many people avoid a visit to the dentist for fear of having one or more teeth pulled. This fear can often prevent us from keeping up with regular check ups and cleaning necessary for good oral hygiene. Here at Oakmead Dental Care, we know how precious your teeth are and we aim to do everything possible to save them. However, in some cases, dental extractions are necessary and just another part of good oral health. Let's look at some of the reasons and procedures involved in dental extractions and oral surgery.

A tooth extraction might be necessary when a tooth is damaged beyond practical repair. Broken, cracked, or extensively decayed teeth could require extracted. The conditions that warrant extraction are usually rare in that regular reconstructive work such as fillings and crowns would not be effective. There are several other factors that can play into the decision of an extracting a tooth such as severe gum disease or severe infections.
