New Year  Resolutions. The beginning of the year sparks a magical motivation in the air, where everyone is trying to better his or her lives in some way. Whether it is to finally get that promotion at work, join the gym or attempt to start eating healthy, most of us try our best to stick to these resolutions…until the novelty wears off, come the end of January!

However, we at Oakmead  think that if you set yourself a few realistic goals, you are more likely to keep up with them for the whole of 2019. So to get you inspired, here are a few to keep your smile healthy this year:

  1. Kick the habit

These days there is a lot of help if you decide to quit smoking, with support groups & products to help you with cravings etc. Smoking doubles your risk for gum disease, oral cancer and cavities, plus it doesn’t give you the freshest breath! This year give the no-smoke life a proper go and take up a sport or activity to help you when the carvings kick in.

The new  year is a great time to make sure your health is in check, including your oral health.

  1. Floss everyday

Flossing everyday sounds like a big commitment to those who don’t usually floss daily, but flossing is essential for a good oral health. Brushing alone isn’t enough to keep plaque from building up on your teeth. To take the best care of your teeth, you need to floss too. If you’re not in the habit of flossing, the new year is a great time to start.

  1. Eat healthy

Yes it’s on our New Year’s resolutions list every year, but come December the festive treats have taken over and we look towards the new year for a fresh, healthy start again. It’s a vicious circle! Try and cut back on your sugar intake and eat more fruit, vegetables and generally tooth-friendly foods! Not only will this help your general health but your diet will improve your oral health and skin too, and just generally you’ll feel a lot more energised during the day!
